Sony's debut console dragged gaming out of the bedroom and into the student flat, its CD games ushering in polygons, full-motion video and a soundtrack culture that chimed with mid-90s Britain. Lara Croft became a cover star, and demo discs off the front of magazines did as much selling as any advert. Cheap-to-press discs meant a vast, varied library. The games below are the landmarks, and while most stay affordable, the scarce PAL releases are the ones to watch.
